Awards
At SF Score, we use the results of eight different annual awards/polls in order to compute points for each novel. The awards are listed below.
Hugo Award for Best Novel
The Hugo Awards are the longest-running award in the SF community. Named after Amazing Stories founder Hugo Gernsback, the Hugos are awarded by the fan members of the World Science Fiction Convention ("Worldcon").

Nebula Award for Best Novel
The Nebula Awards are awarded every year. Winners are chosen by members of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA).

John W. Campbell Memorial Award
The John W. Campbell Memorial Award is named after the longtime editor of Astounding Science Fiction (now known as Analog Science Fiction & Fact). Winners are chosen by a small panel of SF authors and academics.

Arthur C. Clarke Award
This award, funded by a grant from Arthur C. Clarke, recognizes the best SF novel published in the UK each year. The award is chosen by a rotating jury of SF writers, critics, and fans.

Locus Award for Best SF Novel
This award is given to the winner of Locus Magazine's annual reader's poll. From 1971-1977, one award was given for the best novel among SF and Fantasy as a whole. Since 1978, SF and Fantasy have been recognized with two separate awards. The SF award is the one used on this site.

British Science Fiction Association Award for Best Novel
This award is presented by the British Science Fiction Association for the best novel published for the first time in the UK (or published in electronic form only) in the previous year. BSFA members and members of the British Eastercon convention are eligible to vote for the winners.
